Public Relations – Strategies and Tactics

Chapter 2 – The Evolution of Public Relations

Public relations roots go back to ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman times.

From 1900 – 1950 Public Relations was transformed by Henry Ford, Ivy Lee, George Creel, Edward B. Bernays and Arthur Page.

A recent trend has been the entrance of more and more women in the PR field. Women now comprise 70% of public relations professionals inn America.

The public relations field will have to go through much more changes in the up and coming years.

Chapter 3 – Ethics and Professionalism

Ethics refers to a person’s value system and how he or she determines right or wrong.

The three basic categories are:

  • absolutist
  • existentialist
  • situationalist

True public relations professionals have a loyalty to a higher standard and to public interest.

In today’s media environment, there is a blurring of lines between public relations, advertising and journalism. These blurring of lines are of concern to both public relations personnel and journalists.
